A family business since 1956
Three generations of passion for Oriental art
Founded in 1956 by M. Renard, La Maison de la Perse is carried on today by his grandson, Adrien Mignaton. Persian and Oriental rugs, in wool or silk (Ghoum, Naïn, Isfahan, Hereke…): the same expertise, handed down from generation to generation.
Our services
The care every knot deserves
Persian, Turkish, Caucasian, Afghan and Chinese rugs, kilims or tapestries: every piece is examined before any work begins (materials, dyes, fringes, selvedges), and we adapt the treatment to the rug, never the other way round.

Holes, wear and burns repaired knot by knot, with hand-dyed wools to match the original colour.

Back to your home
Your rug is returned clean, inspected and protected, ready to take its place again.
“In Iran, hand-weaving of rugs is disappearing, and the great antique pieces are no longer made. Every rug has become rare, and its value keeps on growing. To restore one is to preserve a heritage.”
— The workshop team

Honest advice on value
Our quotes take into account what your rug will be worth once restored. If the work would cost more than the rug will be worth, we tell you before we start.

I am astonished by the quality of the restoration carried out on my tapestry. The colours were matched with surgical precision. It is rare to find such meticulous craftsmen in France these days. The result is simply magnificent: my piece has regained its former splendour.

Frequently asked questions
You may be wondering…
How much does it cost to clean or restore a rug?
The price depends on the size, the material (wool, silk), the condition of the rug and the work required. The quote is free and without obligation: just send us a photo and the dimensions.
Our quotes take into account the estimated value of your rug once restored. If the cost of the work exceeds that value, we will tell you honestly before doing anything, so that you can make an informed decision.
How long will you keep my rug?
Allow at least two to three months for a cleaning: the rug is soaked in seawater, brushed by hand and dried flat, and this cycle is repeated ten times to clean it right down to the foundation. A restoration may take longer depending on the extent of the work; you are given the return date as soon as we take your rug in.
Could the colours run?
We test the colourfastness of the dyes before any washing and adapt our method accordingly. That is precisely the advantage of cleaning by hand rather than by machine.
Do you take on silk rugs and antique pieces?
Yes. Silk rugs, antique pieces and tapestries receive a specific, gentler treatment, decided after assessment.
Do you travel to my area?
Yes: we travel throughout France, by appointment, from Paris and our warehouses in Vannes, Rouen, Bordeaux and Geneva.
How does home collection work?
We agree on a time slot together. We roll up and protect your rug on site, then bring it back the same way once the work is finished.
